Primavera Fall Short in Derby

Updated: Sep 4, 2020

The last two games have tough for Milan’s Primavera side with losses to Atalanta and Inter Milan’s U19’s. This sees the side return to second bottom on the league table and back into relegation zone.

Playing an attacking 4-3-3 line-up seemed to be of no use to Federico Giunti’s boys against Atalanta, going down a 0-3. Atalanta have continued their dominating ways in the Campionato Primavera 1 this season, placed 8 points clear of second Inter Milan on the table.

The success of the Atalanta youth system has ironically been of use to Milan however, giving us Frank Kessie and Andrea Conti in recent years. The youth system is also credited for being a driving force behind the Atalanta first team’s recent success, currently placed 5th on the Serie table.

Unfortunately for the U19 boys, the crosstown derby against Inter Milan’s Primavera did not go their way, falling 4-2. Goalkeeper Alessandro Plizzari (pictured) was hard pressed for the majority of the game, often let down by sloppy defending. The teenage shot stopper made news in 2017 when Manchester City had their 1.7-million-pound bid rejected by Milan. Goals went to Marco Brescianini and Gabriele Capanni.
