Player Ratings: Milan vs Cagliari; 02/08/20

Updated: Sep 4, 2020

STARTING XI Donnarumma (6.5): Had the bare minimum to do throughout the match until being called on late in the game and making a great save. Tidy on the ball as usual. Calabria (7): Had a great game all around. Positive on the ball put in some good crosses and some excellent link up play all while holding things down defensively when asked. Gabbia (6.5): Likely his best game to date. Showed a calmness we hadn't quite seen and cut out play well. Kjaer (6.5): Read the play well and was there to mop up any danger especially a couple of chances Cagliari created in the first half. Forced Simeone to have a very tough game. Hernandez (6.5): Signiature run down the wing to create the goal for Ibrahimovic and another good performance even though not at his scintillating best going forward. Sound defensively. Kessie (6.5): Continues to impress since the restart. Linked up play well between midfield and defense. Strong defensively and on the ball. Bennacer (6.5): When both Bennacer and Kessie play well it gives the team a great foundation to dictate the match and that is what we saw tonight. Another great display. Castillejo (7): Was lively. The flair he posseses seems the keep opponents guessing. Pinpoint cross to Ibrahimovic which should have been an assist. Provided an easy enough assist for Ibra later on and scored the third himself. Good game. Calhanoglu (6.5): Another good game. You can see his confidence growing as our main creator in the forward half. Made the right passes and decisions throughout. Missed a sitter from an Ibrahimovic cross however. Rafael Leao (7): Only spent 38 minutes into he pitch before being forced off by injury but what a 38 minutes it was. Very lively and created the first on his own and created other chances too. Unlucky to see a brilliant bicycle kick rebound off the bar Ibrahimovic (7): A tale of two halves from our legendary Swede. Missed a sitter from Castillejo cross and missed a penalty in the first half but then scored a powerful finish in the second and was unlucky not to have an assist. Was hard for the Cagliari defense to deal with throughout. SUBSTITUTIONS Bonaventura (6.5): Sad to see him play his last match for the club. Great assist for Castillejo and was lively. Almost had a goal as well but the cutback didn't quite come to him. Daniel Maldini (5.5): Seemed to have chances to dribble and put in a cross but didn't take them and played it safe. Saelemaekers (6): Not a bad game off the bench. Played some good balls at the right times to shift the defense which was positive. Brescianini (6): Almost didn't look like his first game. Did things right throughout his time on the pitch and was composed. Duarte (N/A)
