Milan Club Melbourne September 2020 Newsletter

Season Recap

With the 2019/20 season coming to an end at the start of August which we closed out with a 3-0 win over Cagliari, it feels only right to emphasise and show appreciation for how well we played post-lockdown especially after such a disastrous start to the season in which it looked like yet another year of decline for the Rossoneri. Some extra credit needs to be given to Pioli & the players in leadership roles as it would have been extra difficult to keep everyone motivated and giving their all with so many rumours circling around, mainly speaking in regards to the Ralf Rangnick saga. Overall the most important thing to look at is that if the season had restarted from the reset, we would be league champions as we went undefeated, winning 9 of 12 games & with an outstanding goal differential.

In news circling around, we are being rumoured with quite a lot of players, however no major deals have been done as this is written. Some good news in a big deal for us however is that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has renewed for the 2020/21 season so we can look forward to seeing his talent and leadership to help us grow for another season!

If you haven’t already be sure to head over to check out our channel where we talk all things Milan. One of our recent videos we had the President of the Milan Club Sydney Daniel Karamaneas join us.

Annual General Meeting Notice

We will hold our AGM on Wednesday the 7th of October at 9PM following our monthly committee meeting. It will take place remotely on zoom. All members who have paid their annual subscription fee are encouraged to attend, where roles will be confirmed for the coming season. Please confirm your intention of attendance with at least 14 days before the meeting.

We would also like to acknowledge and pay our respects to former member Walter Locatelli who passed away on the 31st July. We send our love and wishes to his family on behalf of all of us at Milan Club Melbourne.

We are requesting all members to send us in photos of you wearing or representing our merchandise! As we look to grow our club we want to be able to showcase our members in our merch! Please get in contact with us at

This month we delve in to ‘The Golden Boy’ of Italian football. Gianni Rivera is widely regarded by some as the greatest Italian to have played the game, and his play making ability is true testament to that claim. He is the 4th most capped player in Milan History having played 648 matches and he also has the 3rd most goals for the club behind only two of the greatest of all time in Nordahl & Shevchenko with 164.

Starting his career at his hometown club of Alessandria at the age of fifteen, he quickly made headlines and after one year with them in the Serie A a deal was made for Rivera to join Milan and the rest is history. With Milan he went on to win 3 Scudetti, 4 Coppa Italia & 2 Champions Leagues amongst other accolades. In 1969 he won the Ballon d’or at the age of 26 & was the first Italian footballer to do so.

A true hero of both Milan & Italian football, we were privileged to have such a star of the game represent our shirt and the name Gianni Rivera will forever be synonymous with our beloved Milan.

Our club in its current form is now in its 4th year of existence, with its official founding date set at Aug 9th 2017 – the same unforgettable Italian Summer that saw a squad facelift with the signings of; Kessie, Musacchio, Calhanoglu, and Andrea Conti – who remain with us today.

Unfortunately, due to the circumstances that we find ourselves in today, we were unable to share this occasion with all of you – the Melbourne Milanisti. I’m taking the time to write to you to update you on the progress that we have made as a club, and some specific points that relate to the season ahead.

Membership Packs:

There will be no new membership packs for the season ahead. We have taken this decision due to the uncertainty posed by COVID-19, and the difficulties posed in re-signing members. As a result, the status of all members from the 2019-20 season will be rolled over for this current season, and new memberships will remain available on our website to new members. However, we plan on releasing new club merchandise so that you can still get your favourite Milan Club Melbourne kit. If you have any requests for production, please get in contact with us. Remember – all members have access to a discount code for purchases on our store – which can be accessed on the “members” page of our website.

Club Events:

We can’t wait to get back to hosting events upon the easing of restrictions in Melbourne. We also plan to enhance our offering for the coming season by planning some fun activities and confirming a new and improved venue for match-day viewings. As always, we plan to host the Annual Melbourne Italian Fan Club’s Cup – although at a later stage in the season – as well as a trivia night and the creation of a fantasy Serie A competition. For any other club engagement ideas, please reach out to us – we are listening!

Social Media:

With fewer in-person events, our social media accounts are going from strength to strength! We are recognised globally as one of the leading Milan Clubs in the world, and regularly receive communications from AC Milan and other clubs. We also have recently started a YouTube Channel, and encourage you to check it out from our website.

Club Sponsors:

Further on in the newsletter you will be able to view the logos and visit the sites of our club sponsors. Due to COVID-19 and the consequent cancellation of events, our sponsors have been integral in holding the club up. We are forever grateful for their support, and welcome further partnerships into the future. Please contact us if you are interested.

It is a very exciting time for the club. We have finally filled our committee – with a group of 9 Milanisti – and have a further social media and visual design team – who are still recruiting. If you are interested in joining our team – or know someone else who may be – get in touch with us – irrespective of your experience.

Don’t forget: We are a registered Not-For-Profit Organisation, and run for YOU – our members. All committee members are voluntary, and we do our best to run the club aligned with your interests. Please reach out to us to share ideas, feedback and comments – or even if you just want to chat all things Milan!

Although we are between 2 cities and 16,000 kms, we are one team. Move forward with us and join our team. Be part of the most unique segment of Milanisti in the world – the only group who wake up at all hours of the night, just to watch their team. Sign up as a member today:
