Match Preview: Milan - Parma, 13/12/2020

With the Europa League group stage concluded, Milan can now focus on Serie A, where the team has to defend their position in the upcoming games before the start of the new Year. Parma will be the first opponent in this final rush, followed by Genoa, Sassuolo and Lazio, with 4 games in 10 days.

Milan have managed to score against Parma in the last 14 Serie A games and the last game between these two sides saw the Rossoneri winning 3-1 at San Siro. Romagnoli, Calhanoglu and Kessie, with the Ivorian player scoring one of the most beautiful goals in his career.

Milan are undefeated in the first 10 Serie A games, and with 26 points have set a new club record. Looking back into the Diavolo’s history, the last time the team was undefeated in the first 11 games, which happened three times (in 1991/92, 1992/93 and 2003/04), at the end of the season the Rossoneri lifted the Scudetto.

Parma have only won two games this season, 1-0 at home against Verona and 2-1 away versus Genoa, and they have so far earned 10 points. Parma is also one of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s three favourite opponents in Serie A (alongside Roma and Palermo). Indeed, he was able to score 10 goals against the “Crociati”, including the double who allowed Inter to win the Scudetto in 2008.

The Swedish striker will probably not be able to play this match, forcing Rebic to play as striker for one more game. Kjaer is still injured and at best will be back for Lazio, or at worst for the new year. It seems like Bennacer is able to play and he will probably start at the expense of Tonali. On the other side, Parma have some injuries, Grassi won’t be back earlier than January and Laurini still needs a couple of week. However, the main problem for Liverani is Kucka; the former Rossonero got injured during the training before the last match and probably won’t be able to start.
